OPEN WORKSHOPS: RWW’S Open Workshops are classes that meet regularly (Saturdays from 11am-12:30pm & Wednesdays from 7pm-8:30pm) and are designed to accommodate writers of all genres, skill levels, and areas of experience. Each month has themes arising from both the wonders of the real world and the wild realm of whimsy. We draw inspiration from echoes of history, present tensions, and reflection on the infinite possibilities promised by a future just waiting to be written. All schedules reflect Eastern Time. Monthly Unlimited Open Workshop Subscriptions allow unlimited access to Open Workshops only. Monthly Unlimited Poetry Subscriptions do not allow access to Open Workshops. OPEN WORKSHOP CLASS STRUCTURE
Our 90-minute Open Workshops are comprised of three segments, with the last few minutes of each segment offering the opportunity for participant sharing and feedback.
The first segment begins with a 15-minute “low stakes” warm-up exercise designed to spark our creativity by plumbing the depths of the monthly theme while experimenting and practicing with different writing tools.
The next 45-minute segment focus on exercises using prompts inspired by the monthly theme and informed by each participant’s unique interests. These exercises help us to use our theme as a lens through which to better understand and practice specific elements of the writing craft.
The last 30-minute segment invites participants to take their work to the world, through the opportunity for publication via entry into a writing contest selected weekly from the plethora of those always available on the web.
